Music

These compositions are circular in form, written for the physical experience of sound - they all have a unique sound scape and set a scene. I use a number of different recording techniques and I love them, they express what was happening to me at the time of writing them. I fuse live keyboards, interactive audio and computer programming all at the same time to get as much control, and as much of myself in there as possible. The digital music features heavy rhythm patterns and some are quite fast, this is part of my knowledge of the mechanisms of sound and stimulating the brain to its full potential, it really does work and can have a profound healing effect. I am self taught and come from a family of musicians and music teachers. My music can not be classified as "artful techno" or other unjustifiable "genre" categories, It is emotional music - I wish there was a category just for me. I started programming when I was about 14, purely for the feelings and the energy it gave me - I learn't about music through the computer and taught myself how to compose on the piano, I'm 33 now and I still get the buzz. The copyright remains with me but they are currently free to download and share world wide. Some will know that there are releases by myself under different names over the years, but those names have faded away now and I use www.marcwilliams.co.uk as a base. I have a large archive of work over the past two decades and the music files available here are just a small example of the magical pieces I've made that express my musical intentions. Enjoy.

True Love really does exist

Have you ever heard of True Love? You know, that mythical, epic, adventurous True Love that has been battling for all eternity to make itself known? Well, True Love really does exist...

“Do not be asleep, not now. You will miss all the fun! It is time to wake up and to get ready for the party. Who will you be going with? Got anything better to do, than to heal your soul, find your true love, and help heal this magnificent Planet Earth and All Her Relations? I bet you don’t. Do you?"

New Album

26th May 2009

Did I mention? I'm working on a new album that will be available commercially in a few months - I've been very busy and very creative recently, with a number of different projects that are now comming to fruition - I'm making time to focus on finalizing my own creations - I want to give you something really special, something that will get inside you and really change the way you think about the world, something that will release you and heal you, something that will change your physical, mental and spiritual being, something that changes your expectations of music and will surprise you, something that talks to your soul, something that will free the music...

Audiomulch in Ubuntu on the Dell Mini 9

23rd May 2009

Real-Time Kernel, Jack audio server and Audiomulch running with ASIO interface in Ubuntu on a Dell Mini 9? - I wept a little this morning when I realised this setup, it's so fabulous I can't express how excited I am - near enough zero latency, input stream, recording - and I can run Renoise at the same time! Everything works and is completely stable. Of course there is a ceiling in how much processing I can do in real-time due to the CPU, but I've got 2 Dell Mini 9's now and my Runcore 64GB SSD just arrived as I'm writing this - Oh Yes...

Audiomulch & Renoise in Ubuntu

VMWare

Virtual Machines run very well, I've built myself an image to run the Adobe Creative Suite, and get compatibilty with windows when I need it - I nearly thought I'd have to install windows as the base OS, but after discovering the above I know I'll be sticking with Ubuntu - It actually runs Audiomulch better than Windows can due to the Real-Time Kernel I think, and I'm sure the new SSD will make a big difference.

Response Latency

11th May 2009

Renoise v2 is fabulous on the Dell Mini 9, response times are very low with Unubtu, much closer than I'm used to with Windows, and it has a really good "feel" - I am very impressed (at last) the authors have cleaned up the interface a improved the internals dramatically - I've been using it on and off for about 7 years, but it has not deserverd a purchase untill now. It requires some special mods to Ubuntu to work really nice, but when it does, it does...

Renoise in Ubuntu

Change is the only constant

25th April 2009

There will be a link to some new Interactive Music soon, I'm doing more live sessions and I'm actually working on a book as well. There are a few more little cleanup's to do on this site and I'm working on another new project, I'll update you soon...

My Dell Mini 9

22nd April 2009

I've got myself a Dell Mini 9, and I'm extremely impressed with it's abilities. I got the basic package for £199 from Dell, It came with 1G RAM and a 4G Solid State drive (SSD) and Ubuntu 8.04. I've been hacking away on it and I really am glad I bought it. Out of the box, Ubuntu needs a few modifications and hacks to be able to keep up with me, but I've got it running Dual Screen on a 1280x1024 monitor, Google Earh runs very smooth and I've optimized the install so I have plenty of space left over. Full screen Flash movies and Video files run very smoothly and the display is excellent, I'm so glad not to be using Windows on it. It runs 'Audiomulch' through 'Wine' very well and I'm going to do some tests with 'VMWare'. Did I mention it's completely silent and fits in my jacket pocket? There was a glitch with the battery not recharging, but I found some information in a Dell support forum and reset it using 'Fn B'. Ubuntu is a wonderful Linux distribution based on Debian - It has a smooth and strong 'feel' to it - I really liked it from the first time I tried it a few years ago but didn't have a machine to use it on. It means I can work from anywhere again, I have a laptop provided by my employer, but it's not the same as having your own. I can just imagine me with a few of them linked up running Audiomulch doing a live sessions with them - the sound quality is not as high as I'm used to, but I'm looking at some USB options.

Site Music

13th April 2009

I've added a basic Flash music player at the top of the page and some lovely new icons, I'll expand this to include some other tracks so they can play directly from the site - The downloads are still available for now.

I've got a Digital Grand Piano now, which sounds amazing and I really want to get on with recording some more Piano Music for you - I've got a number of compositions which I really love and I want you to hear them as soon as you can, I'd prefer to record them live.

I decided that the structure of this site was getting a little out of hand - My original plan was to have an interwoven site structure but I've redecided, basically I've put everthing on one page, without any compliations - I've set the 301 Page Redirect commands in and saved most of the content. I always like to be one step ahead of myself and it's not stopping yet - I'm fully charged, possitive and completely in love. My dormant DNA codes have been opened and I am a Magical Universal Human Being - It's happening right now.

Additions

28th January 2009

I've evolved the structure of the site again, I've had no time to finish the code for this blog yet but the XML reader is working. I may just take a few short cuts with it. Construction is happening again.

Edits

26th November 2008

Added a CSS and a contact page, generally cleaned up a very basic looking site.

Moved Server

8th October 2008

This site is now hosted on a great server with excellent bandwidth - I'm using .NET as this is accessible to me.

Too much going on

21st January 2002

Added a link to TechTonic, an experiment in post-Jazz.

Before it all happened

28th October 2000

Removed the silly little things from this site, it will be updated again soon... I Sorted out my free music pages on mp3.com as well, but they will start charging soon so unless I'm a paying artists they won't host my music - The main reason I started using mp3.com was because it is free music. I've uploaded a new track to www.mp3.com/freelight called 'Flow'. I will continue to release free music when I can, I have a back-log I want to release... I hope will still have the Internet in 20 years time.

19th October 2000

Added links to the Web-Rings Octaring & New Welsh Music - but I think they look really bad, so i'll fix the HTML when I can...

4th October 2000

Uploaded a new piece to mp3.com, under the alias of 'Free Light'. I'm working on a portfolio page - this will replace the 'Flash' main page - but don`t expect anything for a few months as I've got some other work on the go, but a new Information page should be finished soon - remember the old one with the interactive photograph? - My studio looks quite different now, and i'm using some new advanced software.

2nd October 2000

I'm back - well, I never went away really... I've dug out the old log file, dusted it off and put it back on this site. Everything has been completely rewritten - HTML and Flash versions are available now. What can I say? It is minimal - I've been working on other things during the summer and just wanted something pure and simple for my home page, I'll probably do it all again some time anyway. I go back to university tomorrow, so I'll want something to keep me creative.

Don't forget to support me at www.mp3.com/marcwilliams, There are a few more tracks up now... and there are some other projects of mine available on mp3.com, find them on the links page... There are some gems hidden away in there...

16th June 2000

Its been nearly a month since my last update, feel like I should do updates more regularly, but does it really matter?

18th April 2000

Internet security is a big issue, over the past few weeks I have been researching Web Servers and Security. I've fixed my problems by formatting, re-partitioning and installing a FireWall to protect the internet connection. All computers are a risk when using the internet - I have always been aware of this, what I was not aware of was the level of control that can be taken...

12th April 2000

At last my site is on a real server - This one actually knows I'm hosted on it as it used to be a bit of a hack. I've noticed some problems when I updated things, old pages get caught in cahces, whether on the host server, proxy servers and routers or the browsers - I'm gonna stop doing little fixes - The site is pretty much finished now - I want things sorted quickly and I want perfection... I've got to update the 'Personal' area - I've moved house so my studio is looking really different now - I've actually got the space I need to work in.

I'm working on a new project, called 'bootblock', an online album of the sort in the 'music' area. I've got new tracks and new ideas which need working on!

I like things simple and pure. HTML should be hand-made, browser indepenent and logical - If anyone viewing this site is using platorms other than PC/MAC - such as Linux and are having problems with the 'Flash' movies, please contact me.

10th April 2000

I've upated the 'Projects' section a little - Added a 'Screen Saver' for you to download If you like - I'm working on some new ones soon. A lot has changing in the background of this site. I've set up a Live Audio Stream and I'm playing with the possibilities

8th April 2000

I must appologise to my listeners, the server that this site is hosted on has a very limited bandwidth... I have to move this site as soon as I can - This site was suppose to have Streaming AudioStreaming Music - I think this site is too popular. I've arranged a new server so please use www.marcwilliams.co.uk from now on

6th April 2000

Hey, I think I'm getting somewhere now, I hope you like what I have to offer

3rd April 2000

This site will have to change once again, HTML can be so ugly... I'll sort the layout soon, and get on with putting lovely musical things here.

2nd April 2000

Things are starting to move once again. I've been really busy, I've just moved house, and I've been working hard to get some of my University projects finished. I'm reconstructing everything - I've chosen to create a HTML/Flash hybrid - It makes sence to me - I've been learning about search engines recently - basically because this site did not come up in any of the engines I registered with, I know why now, all the information in the first release was contained within 'Flash' movies - which look great, have fantastic interactive potential, but are unreadable by the search engines - I tried to cheet by hidding HTML text in the background and repeating the information and META Tags. Seeing as I have invested money into this venture (£9.99) by registering www.marcwilliams.co.uk I thought I'd better do things properly this time - although not so Flash...

9th March 2000

Lots of things have changed here, check it out, I'm not gonna be able to update for a while because I'm too busy, stay tuned

2nd March 2000

I've added a streaming video - hopefully it will migrate to cached servers and download faster - took a lot of work to get the thing to work in flash

29th February 2000

I've been tweaking bit'n'bobs - organising the oveall composition of this site. I'm still working on the formula for the music area. I've added an audio stream to test the speed of this server - to see if it actually works on dial-up, tell me if it works for you.

28th February 2000

I made a silly mistake in the 'projects'section. UNIX servers are fussy about upper-case characters in the file names, so some files didn't load as expected... It's sorted now. I've got a new Evolution MK-149 MIDI controler keyboard, so I've been playing with that and I've got some new ideas for this site, so I'm working with those for the moment. Some areas have been updated a little... still got a long way to go.

Online

26th February 2000

I've decided to use MacroMedia Flash for these pages an keep HTML to a minimum - This site will scale to any resolution and play on anything with a 'Flash' plugin... and is still under construction.

What's on my Mind?

Hmmm, let me think...
