Music Downloads

My compositions are generally circular in form and written for the physical experience of sound - they all have a unique sound scape and memorable themes, in a variety of different styles. I use different recording techniques for each of them, and really enjoy making them (even when it gets complicated). I put my love into all of them - they contain what was going on inside me at the time of writing them, and express ideas, emotions and intentions. I work by fusing live keyboards, sequencing, interactive audio techniques and computer programming at the same time, to get as much of myself in there and create music that means something to me - I compose with many different methods and modalities. Through my music I wish to express my 20 years of experience and knowledge about the mechanisms of sound and stimulate your brain to its full potential, it really does work and can have a profound healing and clearing effect. It is primarily emotional music and I often find it difficult to categorize them into a genre - I wish there was a category just for me. I started programming when I was 14, because of the feelings and the energy it gave me - I fed my mind and soul with music and I learnt about music through the (probably excessive) use of a computer and taught myself how to play and compose on the Piano. I am self taught, but also come from a family of musicians and music teachers. I'm 34 now and I still get a really strong emotional effect from writing, I really do love it.

The downloads available here will be remixed / remastered and migrated over to lulu.com soon, but they are currently free to download and share world wide. My new album "deprogramming" will be available soon and contains some very interesting pieces. My long standing listeners and friends will know that there are releases by myself under a few different names over the years, but those names have all been cleared away now and I don't use a pseudonym to promote my work. I have a large archive of work over the past two decades and the music files here are available as a small example of the magic I've made. Enjoy, and keep listening.

True Love really does exist

Have you ever heard of True Love? You know, that mythical, epic, adventurous True Love that has been battling for all eternity to make itself known? Well, True Love really does exist...

“Do not be asleep, not now. You will miss all the fun! It is time to wake up and to get ready for the party. Who will you be going with? Got anything better to do, than to heal your soul, find your true love, and help heal this magnificent Planet Earth and All Her Relations? I bet you don’t. Do you?"

Files back on line

Temporarily Unavailable

14th December 2009

I've had to disable the downloads from this site temporarily until I find a solution because of some excessive bandwidth that is being used. I would encourage people to download the mp3's and play them locally instead of streaming it from this server every time.

Thanks,
Marc

New Blog

7th December 2009

I've moved some of the Ubuntu related posts to a new blog called Advanced AudioMulch where I'll share some How-To's, Ideas and GlovePie scripts.

Preview available

23rd October 2009

I've uploaded a live recording / preview mix to lulu.com of one of the tracks from my forthcoming album "deprogramming" - Brown on one side, then turn over. I'm still working on the album and need to get the tracks recorded and mastered properly, they are all live and change every time I play them, so I have to get the final recordings ready...

New Album

26th May 2009

Did I mention? I'm working on a new album that will be available commercially in a few months - I've been very busy and very creative recently, with a number of different projects - I'm making time to focus on finalizing my own creations - I want to give you something really special, something that will get inside you and change the way you think, something that will release you and heal you, something that will change your physical, mental and spiritual being, something that changes your expectations of music and will surprise you, something that talks to your soul - something that will free the music inside you...

Change is the only constant

25th April 2009

I'm doing more live sessions and working on my interactive music again - I'm actually working on a book as well. There are a few more little cleanup's to do on this site and I'm working on another new project, I'll update you soon...

My Dell Mini 9

22nd April 2009

I've bought a Dell Mini 9, and I'm extremely impressed with it's abilities. I got the basic package for £199 from Dell, It came with 1G RAM and a 4G Solid State drive (SSD) and Ubuntu 8.04. I've been hacking away on it and I really am glad I bought it. Out of the box, Ubuntu needs a few modifications and hacks to be able to keep up with me, but I've got it running Dual Screen on a 1280x1024 monitor, Google Earth runs very smooth and I've stripped the default installation so I have plenty of space left over. Full screen Flash movies and Video files run very smoothly and the display is excellent, I'm so glad not to be using Windows on it. It runs 'Audiomulch' through 'Wine' very well and I'm going to do some tests with 'VMWare'. It's completely silent and fits in my jacket pocket. There was a glitch with the battery not recharging, but I found some information in a Dell support forum and reset it using 'Fn B'. Ubuntu is a wonderful Linux distribution based on Debian - It has a smooth and strong 'feel' to it - I really liked it from the first time I tried it a few years ago but didn't have a machine to use it on regularly. It means I can write music from anywhere again, I have a laptop provided by my employer, but it's not the same as having your own. I can just imagine me with a few Dell Mini 9's linked up running Audiomulch and doing live sessions - the sound quality is not as high as I'm used to, but I'm looking at some USB options.

Site Music

13th April 2009

I've added a basic Flash music player at the top of the page and some lovely new icons, I'll expand this to include some other tracks so they can play directly from the site - The downloads are still available for now.

I decided that the structure of this site was getting a little out of hand, basically I've put everything on one page now, without any complications, and removed anything that wasn't related to my music - I always like to be one step ahead of myself. I'm really positive and completely in love with Samantha. She makes me feel I'm a Magical Universal Human Being - It's happening...

Additions

28th January 2009

I've evolved the structure of the site again, I've had no time to finish the new code for this blog yet, but the XML reader is working. I may just take a few short cuts with it. Construction is happening again.

Edits

26th November 2008

Added a CSS and a contact page, generally cleaned up a very basic looking site.

Moved Server

8th October 2008

This site is now hosted on a great server with excellent bandwidth - I'm using .NET as this is accessible to me.

Last Post?

21st January 2002

Added a link to Techtonic, an experiment in Post-Jazz.

28th October 2000

Removed the silly little things from this site, it will be updated again soon... I Sorted out my free music pages on mp3.com as well, but they will start charging soon, so unless I'm a paying artists they won't host my music - The main reason I started using mp3.com was because it is free music. I've uploaded a new track to www.mp3.com/freelight called 'Flow'. I will continue to release free music when I can, I have a back-log I want to release... I hope we still have the ability to host our own content for free on the Internet in 20 years time.

19th October 2000

Added links to the Web-Rings Octaring & New Welsh Music - but I think they look really bad, so I'll fix the HTML when I can...

4th October 2000

I've started a new project - mp3.com/freelight. I'm working on a new portfolio page that will replace the 'Flash' main page - I've got some other work on the go, but a new Information page should be finished soon - remember the old one with the interactive photograph? - My studio looks very different now, and I'm using some new advanced software called Audiomulch.

2nd October 2000

Everything has been completely rewritten - Different HTML and Flash page versions are available now. What can I say? It is now very minimal - I've been working on other things during the summer and just wanted something pure and simple for my home page. I'll probably do it all again some time soon, as I like the creativity.

Lots more music is now available at www.mp3.com/marcwilliams, and there are some other projects of mine available on mp3.com, find them on the links page...

16th June 2000

Its been nearly a month since my last update, I feel like I should do updates more regularly, but does it really matter?

18th April 2000

Computer security is a big issue on the Internet, over the past few weeks I have been researching Web servers and Security. I've fixed my problems by formatting, re-partitioning and installing a Fire Wall to protect the Internet connection. All computers are a risk when using the Internet - I have always been aware of this, what I was not aware of was the level of control that can be taken without anything obvious happening...

12th April 2000

At last my site is on a really good server - My new Web master actually knows what I'm hosting now and I've got some decent bandwidth - the old one was a bit of a hack. I've noticed some problems when I updated things, old pages get caught in caches, whether on the host server, proxy servers and routers or the browsers - I'm going to stop doing little fixes - The site is pretty much finished for now - I've got to update the 'Personal' area - I've moved house again and my studio is looking really different - I've actually got some decent space to work in.

I'm working on a new project, called 'bootblock', a new online album of the sort currently in the 'music' area. I've got new tracks and new ideas which need working on!

10th April 2000

I've updated the 'Projects' section a little. A lot has changed in the background - I've set up a Live Audio Stream and I'm playing with the possibilities.

8th April 2000

I must apologise to my listeners, the server that this site is hosted on has very limited bandwidth... I have to move this site as soon as I can - The site is supposed to have Streaming Audio, not that staggered downloads that have been happening lately - I've heard that the owner of the server did not pay his bills, so the hosting company has limited the bandwidth - which would be fine (although slower) for normal sites, but not my Streaming Music - Looking at the log files shows that this site is too popular. I've arranged a new server, so please use www.marcwilliams.co.uk from now on.

6th April 2000

Hey, I think I'm getting somewhere now, I hope you like it.

3rd April 2000

This site will have to change once again, HTML can be so ugly compared to Flash... I'll sort the layout soon, and get on with putting more musical things here.

2nd April 2000

Things are starting to change once again. I've been really busy, I've moved house, and I've been working hard to get some of my other projects finished. I'm reconstructing everything - I've chosen to create an HTML/Flash hybrid site - It makes sense to me - I've been learning about search engine optimization recently - basically because this site did not come up in any of the search engines I registered with. I know why now, all the information in the first release of this site was contained within 'Flash' movies - which look great, have fantastic interactive potential, but are currently unreadable by the search engines - I tried to cheat by hiding HTML text in the background and repeating the information in the META Tags. Seeing as I have invested money into this site (£9.99) by registering www.marcwilliams.co.uk I thought I'd better do things properly this time - although not so Flash...

9th March 2000

Lots of things have changed, try the links. I'm not going to be able to update for a while as I'm too busy at the moment, stay tuned

2nd March 2000

I've added a streaming video - it should migrate to the cache servers and download faster soon - it took a lot of work to get it to work with the Flash plugin as Flash doesn't actually support streaming video yet.

29th February 2000

I've been tweaking bit'n'bobs - organising the overall composition of the pages. I'm still working on a formula for the music area. I've added an audio stream to test the speed of this server - to see if it works without glitches on dial-up, so please send me a message if it is working for you.

28th February 2000

I made a silly mistake in the 'Projects' section. UNIX servers are fussy about upper-case characters in the file names, so some files didn't download as expected... It's sorted now. I've got some new ideas for this site, so I'm working with those for the moment - some pages have been updated a little.

Online

26th February 2000

This site uses Macromedia Flash with a minimal use of HTML - it will scale to any resolution and play on any device with a 'Flash' plugin... and is still under construction.
